Joining The Challenge! – LAST YEARS RECORD IS BEATEN BY OVER 10,000 BAGS!!
The Plymouth Brethren are again participating in the British Heart Foundations Great British Bag-athon challenge. The BHF’s target for this year is One million bags, an inspiring goal. Last year the PBCC became Bag-athon legends when they collected an incredible 2768 bags for the BHF.
With over 300 churches nationwide the brethren teams are rallying with enthusiasm to do all we can to match or if possible even beat last year’s excellent result.
The British Heart Foundation is the UK’s number one heart charity dedicated to fighting heart disease. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF are leading the fight against it, and have been doing so now for over 50 years.
With a number of members of the PBCC having experienced heart problems in their own families, and having proven the benefits of the latest research and technology that in many cases has been funded by such charitable actions, the PBCC have great respect for this dedicated charity and are committed to helping their research teams by getting unreservedly involved in this challenge. We realise the vital help that is provided to the charity through every single extra bag that is donated.
You can view the BHF Bag-athon challenge here http://bag-athon.bhf.org.uk/
You can see below a snapshot of where the PBCC are up to in the bag-athon league tables.
And the result?
An outstanding 12,998 bags for the BHF, this is absolutely incredible. Words cannot really describe the level of achievement that this displays. A fantastic display of teamwork and unselfishness makes this a success that will be remembered for a long time.
We will shortly be putting up a new blog to display the final outcome figures and any photo’s we may have!
Many thanks to all who have worked so hard to turn this challenge into an inspirational success for the BHF!!
We look forward to seeing more pictures and further updates as the bag collecting goes on!!

More bags coming!
Why not send in all those bottles of perfume that you don’t like, that you were given as presents?? Somebody somewhere will like Chanel No.5! I’ve just filled a carrier bag with toiletries that I don’t need.
Another 35 bags just gone trundling off down the road to the BHF shop!
What a fantastic feeling!
Can anybody beat 155 bags yet?
Amazing – PBCC is almost a quarter of the way to the mark with only 12 bags needed to get to the quarter. Have you dropped leaflets in all the neighbourhoods with a contact number? You never know – might add to your stack!! Keep up the great work – we’re cheering you all on across the pond.
Of course we can – i’ve at least 50 pairs of shoe but only 2 feet – here’s some bags coming your way!!
here we go
wardrobe clearing coming up
well overdue so jolly good excuse!
lets get there 😉
Just keep fillin those bags with all your stuff. You could always buy it back if you were really missing it!
When shall we three meet again,
In thunder, lightning or in rain?
Well it rained today, be sure of that,
As we left our work, our orders, and VAT
To drop off more goodies
Like trainers and hoodies
RAIN RAIN go away
Along with those clouds so gloomy and grey.
The volunteers are bagging still,
they’re doing it day and night..
If you could see the bags they’ll fill
you’d probably get a fright..
Behind the scenes where nobody sees
With toys – and jeans – and even settees,
For today’s the day we achieve… [hey, can anyone think of a next stage up from Legend??? because we’ll sure need one soon 😉 ]
completely unbelievable..?!?! 🙂
Super Bagger?
There was a young PB called Jon
Who entered the great bag-athon
So he loaded his truck
With bags full of books
But forgot to fasten them on!!
Oh dear Oh dear it all went wrong
And poor old Jon looked such a cringe
A few seconds later he started to winge
So the RRT came to the rescue!
I’ve got some blue cardigans available for collection! 🙂 🙂 😉
all this collecting is making me tired…i’ve got bags under my eyes:)
keep up the good work everyone…
How shall we go about getting goods ova to you from Down Under?????
You can send the cardigans to me.
I don’t have blue cardigans but have you gone to the older folks who may wish to clear out but aren’t able? My grandma will soon be moving out and wishes she could donate the lot but the cost to ship would be astronomical! Also – many don’t have email over here and aren’t in the loop. A simple question might bring you much more in donations – you may just have to help clear it out!! We’re thoroughly enjoying the musical and poetic gymnastics on this post – keep up the great work – all of you!! We’re rooting for you even though we can’t help.
so do I – they still have white things in the top pockets though….
Thanks for the incentive to get on and have that promised clear-out. I can now open the wardrobe door without everything falling out on top of me!! AND all for a very good cause too!
Lets hope we smash last year’s record!
I agree! Thanks – we’ve had such a good clear-out that there’s room for the kids toys in their cupboard now! I hope the BHF smash their target too!
Just dropped a whole boot full of loot down to the local,(BHF shop that is!), they didn’t know where to put it all!
Come on Southampton – what are we doing for this worthy cause?? Can someone get it going here????
Fill up your own bags, then contact the local team and ask who is collecting them. Or ask for a receipt form and take your own to BHF. Ring round your friends and spread the enthusiasm and it soon takes off. Happy bagging!!!
a load of bags just gone, we are coming 1st on in the bag-athon
4th visit this week to BHF for a bulk drop off! The lady asked me to thank everyone very much for the effort! Thank YOU too BHF and all your volunteers for what YOU do!!!
Yes! – 566 bags now from the PBCC. We are over 1/10th of the way! We managed to collect 54 last saturday.
Wow! look at that we’re legends already with 535 bags! 15 of those were the ones the 2nd little pig dropped off today! that’s nearly half of our target locally – and they only came from four households!!, but we’re aiming to smash that – let’s see how many we can get chaps!………Don’t know if we’ll beat Granny, but we’ll have a jolly good go! 🙂
Awesome – we are already past ‘Legend’ and it is not even Friday yet!
On BHF website it says 535 bags and rising!!
this is absolutely awesome!! keep it up!! 😉
The lady took the bags and she cried,
“Oh thank you, and MY! Arent they wide!
Oh what? You have MORE?
Oh! Oh! Bags galore!
You’re taking my eyes for a ride!
🙂 😉 🙂
The Red BHF door was open,
For Bagathon Bags they were hopin’
Then in came two bags, (me and her)
Who were carrying TEN bags,
TARGET 5000! WE REALLY AREN’T JOKING!
🙂 🙂 🙂
