Congratulations to our High Achievers!
The PBCC have always believed that hard work brings success at school and in postgraduate studies, so we wanted to take the opportunity to recognise the outstanding results of some of our students in recent months.
Focus Schools (the trust set up to run the schools that PBCC students attend) has had a long history of excellent results and above average reports from the Schools Inspection Service, and this is reflected in the attitude of the students to learning. Below is an extract from some inspiring comments made by one of the students, Rohanna Birch, who achieved 10 A*’s and 2 A’s in her GCSE’s.
‘I think the key to success and achieving good grades is based on an individual desire together with an atmosphere of wanting to learn and do your best possible. This is actively promoted by our teachers, trustees, parents and peers.
In year 9, our maths teacher gave us all a target and a dream target – this inspired me to do the same for the rest of my subjects. I set out to achieve my dream target in everything I was studying. It meant hard work, getting up early in the morning, committing myself to work before school, at school and after school. And with the help and support of all those around me, particularly the teachers, it meant I was able to reach my personal goal of getting all A grades or above, completing my GCSE’s with 10 A*s and 2 A’s.
Above all, I think as students, we need to be willing to study hard, not only in lessons, but also at home to give ourselves the best possible chance to succeed in our school career. Remember… we only have ONE chance to learn all we can at school – make the most of it! If it’s the only thing you do during your school life, stretch yourself to become a high achiever. Although it may seem difficult at the time, it will be well worthwhile in the future…’
Other high achievers in GCSE’s this year were;
Constance Harris – 10 A* grades.
Hayley Smith – 6A* grades, 5 A’s and 1B.
Kylie Deayton – 4A*’s and 5 A’s.
Josiah Fleet – 6A*’s and 4 A’s.
Nathan Bricknell – 6A*’s and 4 A’s,
Scott O’Prey – 4A*s, 4 A’s and 2 B’s.
This is fantastic and may you all continue on to excel in your A-levels!
Students then go on to complete years 12 and 13 culminating in A-levels and this year there have been some incredible results:
Victoria Atmore – 5A* grades, 1A and 1B
Daniel Hughes – 1A* and 4A’s plus a distinction in Grade 8 on the saxophone!
Murray Gates – 1A* and 4A’s and a B.
Rory Carron – 2A’s and 2B’s.
One student decided to take A-level maths early (Clayton Southall – year 10) and got an A!
We’d like to give the above a hearty round of applause – you’re an inspiration to those still at school to follow your example, and to many of us in middle age who wish we’d tried harder!
And when the students finish school – this is not the end of their learning. They are encouraged to take up Postgraduate Studies so that they can earn while they learn, and go on to gain degree equivalent qualifications. One such example is Tina Joynt from Ireland, who came seventh in the world and first in the country at a professional level Accountancy examination! Congratulations Tina – we wish you all the best in your ongoing studies!
We encourage all viewers of this article to blog in your congratulations to these students – they deserve every one!
We would like to thank everyone for their blogs. We want to make it very clear that though these individuals have done incredibly well, this is, as others have said not only about grades. There are many pupils in our schools around the world who have worked extremely hard and excelled to prove they can learn how to learn and do the very best they can.
We have only named persons on this blog to show how through that sheer dedication we can achieve outstanding results. We can say that if you are looking at this, and have put your all into your work but not achieved this level of grade, do not be discouraged, you are still a high achiever. Being an achiever is about being able to set yourself to achieve something and hitting your goal, being a finisher!
Everyone is very aware that we all have different abilities as someone has referred to, these are God given, but to achieve any grade beyond what you thought was possible, is an excellent achievement. So for all of you who have done this, but haven’t been mentioned on this blog, we would like to say WELL DONE!! your work ethic and achievements will NOT have gone unnoticed.

AWESOME ROHANNA! Those grades are absolutely pukka…!!! Keep up the high grades for A level and you’ll be well away. YAY!
Yeah 2 right…3 cheers Rohanna!… LONG EATON Campus is proud of you! ;D
WELL DONE TO ALL THE HIGH ACHIEVERS! High grades don’t just come without the effort and desire to achieve…so well done all + keep it up!!
LET’S NOT FORGET THAT ACHIEVING GOOD GRADES ISN’T JUST ABOUT INTELLECT. IT’S ALSO ABOUT PUTTING THE HOURS AND EFFORT IN, HAND, HEART AND SOUL.
THIS BLOG ISN’T ABOUT PITTING HIGH ACHIEVERS AGAINST OTHERS; IT’S SIMPLY ABOUT RECOGNISING THOSE WHO HAVE EXCELLED IN ACADEMICS.
HIGH ACHIEVERS HAVE AS MUCH OF A RIGHT TO BE RECOGNISED AS THOSE WHO EXCEL IN OTHER AREAS.
SO – CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL!
Well spoken, everyone who tries their best is a high achiever!
I agree completely with this blog… Students who achieve these grades do so by solid hard work – it is not just about being ‘brainy’. These high achievers should be applauded for their dedication. I would like to congratulate Clayton on a fantastic result at such a young age – WELL DONE!!
Amen, amen. you school kids don’t know you’re born these days with all those good schools to attend. make the most of the opportunity and you will never regret it. xx
Wait a minute – getting amazing results isn’t everything. Achieving is not about the grades you get – its about how much you try.
Some of us aren’t all that able, some have serious learning disabilities, we shouldn’t over look them/ignore them/despise them because they didn’t get 10 A* at alevel (etc). Some of the highest achievers I’ve every known, have been like this, severely challenged, but never letting it hold them back – they may not have got amazing results at school, but they deserve as much praise as any other achiever.
Come on, its not all about getting incredible results – set a side a moment to think of those who are persevering again insurmountable challenges, and still now giving up, those who quietly, patiently, pursue – not enjoying the limelight, but simply achieving without seeking any sort of recognition.
Please, ‘There Are Others’ if you read through the bloggs you will be aware that this is ‘the moment’ for some very successful pupils. Please “see how they shine”! I know one pupil mentioned here for incredible results, has been seriously sick and also her mother, too, during her time of study. Please accept the recognition that has been given. Thanks.
‘THERE ARE OTHERS’ – PERHAPS I DIDN’T MAKE MY ORIGINAL COMMENTS VERY CLEAR.
IF IT HELPS, I HAD HEALTH RESTRICTIONS THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE SCHOOL LIFE. THROUGH HARD WORK, I ACHIEVED MY POTENTIAL. AND, YES, I WAS CONSTANTLY LABELLED AS ‘BRAINY’ WHICH ISN’T ACTUALLY VERY NICE EITHER!
I WAS SIMPLY SEEKING TO MAKE THIS POINT. NO, ACHIEVING GOOD GRADES ISN’T THE ONLY TYPE OF ACHIEVEMENT. BUT IT IS ONE OF THEM!
ADMIN COULD DO OTHER BLOGS TO RECOGNISE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACHIEVEMENTS IN FOCUS SCHOOLS – THIS ONE IS SIMPLY ABOUT RECOGNISING ONE TYPE OF ACHIEVEMENT, ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, SHOWING THAT FOCUS SCHOOLS ARE CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE WHERE EVERY STUDENT CAN ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. THEY RECOGNISE EVERYONE’S ACHIEVEMENTS.
Well, to be honest, I actually agree with what ‘there are others’ is saying.
‘There are others’ & ‘Me too’ – I couldn’t agree more, especially knowing what it feels like to work hard & get your best grades but get no recognition for it just because you were not top in the class. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONE THEIR BEST!!
I agree with what ‘there are others’ says – to a certain extent. Granted, there are many people who’v far exceeded their own potential, and this, in itself, is an amazing achievement for each one. However , don’t think that those mentioned above are ‘brainy’ and simply got these grades without trying. I know effort some put in. There aren’t many witnesses to the sheer dedication and effort they have thorwn in- 3 hour nights the lot. This was no easy run for these achievers. It took guts and sloggingly hard work. Lets congratulate anyone who has the determination to face the challenge of working hard and don’t forget, the result achievedlisted above were certainly no easy feats by ‘brainy’ kids.
THANK YOU, ZACHARY – YOU’VE MADE WHAT I WAS THINKING CLEAR. AND TO CLARIFY, I WOULDN’T WANT TO MINIMISE ACHIEVEMENTS FROM THOSE WHO HAVE JUST DONE THEIR BEST.
agreed….. since I’ve graduated from skl, you’ll realize pretty quickly that getting high grades alone doesn’t do loads to help you at work! it’s all what you make it!
school prepares you for work in some ways, but… well… just u kiddies wait!! 🙂
I agree having the ability to get high grades doesn’t necessarily help you at work. However, how much effort you put in most certainly does. Learning to work at something and stick at it until its completed is vital in every aspect of life. And if you don’t learn it at school, it’s way way harder when you’re at work!
I say old chap, you have hit the nail bang on! as many others are saying its is Sheer hard work that wins the day not brain cells.
anyone not achieving like they want – try some early mornigns and hard work = recipe for success! no other way!
nice one clayton
NICE ONE BUD.
give it all you’ve got, cos you’ve really got a lot,
your heart, your soul, your mind, don’t stop!!
Amen
Nice one Clayton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep going.
go f’rit you lot that are still at school – what you put in is what you get out and you’ll never regret it (even if 4.30 does sound a bit early….you can do it!!)
Extensive, wholehearted congratulations to all (again). You get a greater sense of achievement when you suceed in a subject that you find more challenging than when you suceed in a subject that you find easy.
Very very well done Vicky!! We are ever so pleased for you.. :-)!
Can we also congratulate Liam James who has achieved a total of 7 x A*, 2 x A and 1 x B in his GCSE exams. One A* and the one B was actually achieved last year. This is an incredible set of results and a tribute to him, for his dedication to hard work, to his parents for their support and his excellent teachers at the fantastic campus at HORNBY!!
Three cheers!! Let’s fly the flag!! Brilliant performance Liam – you’ve well and truly put Hornby on the map!!
Fantastic, Liam- That’s a cracking achievement! Now give it beans in the the A Levels…!
A very big well done to Liam and all his other class mates! Keep up the hard work all of you at Hornby Park.
You’ll NEVER regret it!

But well done Scotty, pretty amazing…
I am!!
No it’s not.
Clayton You have done so well and deserve your achievement..you worked like a ….Trojan.
For Robbie (see below)
For further clarification: The PBCC schooling system is a global one, so we need to use terms that we can understand, whichever country we live in. The kids generally start at Year 3 Primary, then go through Secondary, then Tertiary/Post Grad. We don’t go to Uni, so obviously we don’t use the term Post Grad to mean Post-Uni! If I have got this wrong, no doubt someone who knows the education system better than me, will correct me.
The British Government is now declaring that school leavers have GOT to either “Earn or Learn”,and they won’t get Social Security benefits until they are 25 years old. In the PBCC the slogan is “Learn while you Earn”. so our young people are able to become householders that are stable financially by their mid twenties. What on earth could be better than that??
Go Granny!!
Couldn’t have put it better myself!! Well put Granny…
Granny, I think on a British blog you should use British English with a British understanding. The no-one is confused who read it in Britain.
Robbie old chap..
us Brits have got a dashed annoying habit of being rather pernickety – some are without realizing it and others are like it because they enjoy it.
This blog is about UK events – that is correct, however people are viewing and blogging on this Globally – an adequate reason to use terms that are recognised by all.
Tewry agrees with Eroc the Cleroc, having worked so hard at shkool himself, for very little roward, he knows what it feels like to walk home and through the flap feeling a failure.
Tewry thinks it is not just about those who get good grades – all those who try their best doserves a big congwatulashions!
Well done also to Bethony for all her hard work, she is not mentioned on this list but she worked so hard!
I quite agree, Tewry.
All the best.
Hey Tewry, I agree with you but this is the time to congratulate everyone that got good grades. Besides having good brains these kids have worked hard right the start!!
Having known some of these kids personally I can also tell you that this is their gift and it is their moment to shine… Unlike other people who normally hit the headlines with their musical ability and sporting skills.
Bethony who?
…and those that didn’t get amazing results – they did their best as well, they just might not have the ability to get their name here…
Good point Terronce.
…Bethony Harroson.
yayyyyyyy – go everyone else who didn’t quite get top in the class – if you tried your best you’re one of the best.
Congratulations Clayton – a well deserved result for all your hard work. Keep it up this year.
well done myself.
i’ve done realy well.
U speak about the others but my results r the best considering my extremely low potential.
i agree, but mi problems spelling really r cuming 2 the forefront.

Well done Josiah!
Love Auntie Debbie x
Big well done Josiah (and everyone else!) Brilliant results…Keep it up this year!
Also…how about Ode to Joy??? I hope you’re still practising it!!!! 🙂
Ode to Joy? Which one? We could think of a few!!
Well done everyone!! You did your best… not only the ones on the list, but all those that took exams in the last year. Show the whole world what an excellent schooling system we have – give it all you’ve got, as you haven’t got long in school!! Make the most of it and I wish you all luck for any forthcoming exams and assignments.
God bless you all and may He be with you every step of the way, through all times. Don’t forget – you only need to call on Him and He’s always there for you! A little piece of advice – don’t forget to call on Him before each exam – you will do SO much better when you are not relying on your own strength, but that of one that is infinitely greater than you. (Don’t use this as an excuse not to work before the exams though – that certainly DOESN’T work… 🙂 )
