RRT support Macmillan at Mighty Hike Walk

On Saturday 1st August, 187 walkers joined the ‘Mighty Hike’, a challenging hiking marathon of 26 miles through the picturesque Surrey Hills.  The walk started at 8am near Guildford, with rest stops every 6 or 7 miles and hot food at the finish line. The final walkers arrived in Redhill Memorial Park at 9pm.

Since 1911, Macmillan has provided support and help for patients, carers, families and communities affected by cancer.  Almost 1000 people every day hear the news that they have cancer.  A quarter of them will have no support from family and friends…… This isolation and loneliness is a major issue for many people coping with cancer and Macmillan are determined to provide the needed support and work tirelessly to raise funds and awareness.  In 2014, £47.4 million was raised by fundraising events similar to this one.

Surrey RRT teams were very happy to lend their support to the organizers to hand out water, and refreshments along the way at various rest stops.  Encouraging on the walkers, they were also there at the finish line to hand out the medals.  RRT were very glad to support this worthy cause, and wish Macmillan every success in their ongoing efforts to support those affected by cancer.
