RRT Newtown lend a willing hand at their local Fire Station
This was the third time we’ve been able to support this amazing team!
Young Fire-Fighters (YFF) were there from Newtown and Welshpool doing drill competitions and washing cars. The aim of the open day is to open their doors to the surrounding community, give everyone a happy family day out, raise money for local charities and to encourage more to sign on to their almost entirely voluntary team.
All monies raised on Saturday were distributed to four charities of the YFF’s choice, and an added bonus being that Barclays were there and had agreed to match fund everything they raised up to £1000!
RRT ever keen to make it as great as possible helped to market the event by leaflet dropping at all the local industrial units and about 1500 houses. Overall, an OUTSTANDING £2,146 was raised including Barclays match-funding!!!
As always, the YFF day was action packed with activities including ‘hook-a-duck’, ‘remote racing cars’, a raffle and a display of local talent with live music from an RRT band.
Weather was on our side this time, so we had an excellent turnout including Russell George, Welsh Assembly Minister, and Richard Edwards, Newtown Mayor, who spared some time to drop into the fire station for lunch.
Bacon ‘butties’ were served for breakfast, a couple of hundred burgers dished up for lunch, not to mention the chips, drinks and ice-creams which were also available! “Such a professional set-up and awesome food as always” was one of many compliments the RRT received.
