PBCC members hike to raise funds for a Cardiac Monitor for the Children’s Ward at YDH July 2016

A group of friends from the Yeovil PBCC decided to raise money for the Yeovil Hospital Charity to help fund new equipment.

Many members of the Yeovil PBCC have benefited from the excellent services and care of the Yeovil District Hospital and were keen to get involved either by doing a walk or making a donation.

So a challenging 11-mile hike across the Dorset Coast was planned with a target of £2500.00.

The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site and a jewel in the crown of the world’s natural places. The sponsored hike took place in July along this magnificent coastline, starting and ending at Kimmeridge.

On the day the weather and conditions were perfect and after a brief team talk, the walkers set off at 12:30.

The energetic and experienced ones were of at a brisk pace followed by the older and (less fit) at a steadier pace! The walkers soon settled in for the haul ahead and the stunning scenery rewarded them along the way, with outstanding panoramic views from Portland round to Poole Harbour.

On the last stretch, the walkers were urged on by the beckoning aroma of the BBQ’s, and by 5.30pm all had arrived safely back. Well-deserved drinks and excellent food was enjoyed by all.

30 walkers (and one runner) completed the 11-mile route, and another 12 chose the 7 or 5-mile option of the course. Between them they covered over 430 miles and the highest point on the route was some 662 ft.

The funds raised smashed the target and a total of £2850.00 was raised. The monies are going towards purchasing a new Cardiac Monitor for the Children’s Ward at YDH. This vital piece of equipment costs around £12000 and the monies raised will make a great contribution towards this. We thank all our donors in supporting us!

Sarah Cherry – Yeovil Hospital Charity Community Fundraiser was delighted with the results;

Hi Chris,

Thank you for organising a huge sponsored walk to raise funds for the children’s ward.

The photos of the day look brilliant.

We really appreciate you raising £3158 with gift aid.

It really will make a big difference.

Thank you.
