OPERATION – HYDRATE LONDON
As temperatures continued to soar into the late 30’s C in London on the 1st July, operation Hydrate was planned at 15:30h. RRT teams from Peckham, Sutton and Watford travelled into London to set up bottle water distribution from Kings Cross, London Bridge and Westminster stations. By 16:30 the first teams were in position and between 7000-8000 bottles of water were handed out to commuters in the space of 1 hour.
Hot and weary commuters offered Encouraging words to the volunteers – “you guys are life savers” “can I take a few” “what you are doing us amazing” “ so kind what you are doing “ and “what a relief”
The metropolitan police and Network Rail appreciated the operation with Shift Station Manager David O’Neil saying “this is just what the commuter’s need in this weather – thank you”.
The distinctive red marquees of the RRT were instantly recognised by many commuters, having seen the RRT in operation at many locations throughout London over the past months.
