Bristol PBCC Senior Boys Band Perform At Nursing Home Event
Saturday 19th July 2014 saw the Bristol PBCC band perform a number of songs for the elderly at Woodlands Manor Care Home.
Woodlands Manor is a family owned care home that was opened in 1994. Nursing Care is provided for 40 physically frail people in personal rooms all furnished to a high standard, many of which have en-suite facilities and has excellent size lounge and dining room areas. It was in the main dining area at the front of the building that the Bristol PBCC band performed on this occasion.
When the home was approached regarding a possible performance, they were very excited as they were in the process of planning an event, the special occasion of an elderly lady named Alice who was celebrating her 102nd birthday.
The band consisted of 5 young members of the Bristol PBCC aged between 14 and 16. The many, many hours of practise over the preceding weeks was about to pay off. They played a number of golden oldies such as ‘Rocking All Over The World’ along with gospel songs such as ‘Leaning On The Everlasting Arms’ and a nice country ballad which appealed to all those listening.
During the performance members of staff were singing along with the songs and the elderly residents were joining in with waving hands and jigging feet. The main feature of the day was the celebration of the 102nd birthday of Alice. Alice, a very spritely soul, was extremely pleased and very thankful for the music, the crowning touch being when the boys put their instruments down and just sang Happy Birthday with everybody joining in.
Many of Alice’s relatives who were present thoroughly enjoyed the performance and expressed their appreciation and thanks.
As they were packing up the boys found time to stop and talk to some of the residents. It was obvious from the comments received that they were all very thankful. “We’d love to have them back again” the staff commented.

Hi Admin,
by the amount of comments requesting for the whole songs on mp3s be put on here, was wondering if you could make this possible for us?
we love the songs, we want to hear more!! 🙂
Unfortunately we cannot put them on ourselves as we do not have access to the editing of the site but we can speak to those involved and ask the question. Patience may be needed on this occasion…!
Hey Guitarist which one are you?
Ok, that makes sense, sorry…just wanted to know, because it seems that everyone seems to be asking for the whole songs, just wanted to ask the question, you know….:)
Well Done guys!!
awesome!
in the article, it was mentioned that you guys “put their instruments down and just sang Happy Birthday with everybody joining in”…but, there is no part of this in the video provided…was this a different time?
There were two occasions on which we sang Happy Birthday to an elderly person in the home, once at Woodlands Care Home and once at Windmills Residential Home. The video uploaded is of Windmills and we didn’t manage to video the part when we sang Happy Birthday on this occasion. Sorry!
No probs, just asking!! 🙂
Thanks for letting us know though.
Great job boys!! Congrats… also like how the audience got involved as well (i.e. the old ladies that even gave some dance moves…)
Is there anyway we could have the full mp3 versions of the songs? Would like to hear the whole song, not just parts….
Good going, you all sounded grate. Could you put MP3 music of the songs played?
Love this!
Any chance we could have separate recordings – Please 🙂
