IE – Dublin RRT Assists at Sleepout Event for Homeless
On Friday evening 24th February 2017 the RRT crew in Dublin set up in the city centre, at the central bank, to provide food for the homeless and for the volunteers of the non profit organisation, You’re Not Alone.
You’re Not Alone were conducting a sleepout event in support of the homeless in Ireland, where there are currently over 7000 people without a home. The goal of the night was not only to provide food and necessities to some of these people but to also raise awareness for the homelessness crisis, with volunteers choosing to spend the night out in the cold to show solidarity to those less fortunate than most. The You’re Not Alone team had contacted the RRT to ask for their support, which RRT gladly accepted.
The organisation provide the homeless with a great amount of assistance, including serving food to them twice weekly, and providing clothing and necessities. This organisation has been doing this selfless work for the past 2-3 years. In recognition for their constant support for homeless people, the Dublin Rapid Relief Team were only too glad to help provide free meals for the sleepout supporters and for the homeless people who were also present.
It was a chilly night for the volunteers who worked from 7pm to 10.30pm with real feel temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius and the wind blowing from the growing Storm Ewan. 20 volunteers were present from the RRT who looking after the cooking and handing out of food. The estimate for the amount of homeless people assisted during the night was 380, all very glad to have a hot meal and someone to talk too.
Top class service was laid on for attendees as the evening saw the launch of the new barista coffee trailer recently aquired by RRT, offering bean to cup coffee, and speciality coffees. With the cold evening the fresh barista coffees were very much appreciated by all.
More than three hundred burgers and 150 coffees were served during the evening, along with other food kindly donated and served by other supporting organisations.
Many thanks to all those who lent a hand to make this event a success.
Well done! And on such a cold night too!
